NEET Mandatory for BAMS & BHMS Admissions: Ahmedabad HC
Dismissing the plea of the Association of Self-Financed Ayurveda Colleges, Gujarat, the Ahmedabad High Court Ruled that the vacant seats in BAMS and BHMS courses should be only filled up on the basis of NEET exams.

The court received several pleas and petitions asking for taking Ayurveda and Homeopathy admissions in the colleges based on 12th board examination results. The observations of Justice Bela Trivedi concluded that NEET must be mandatory for admissions in these courses.

Previously, two online admissions followed by one offline admission used to take place in these courses. After making NEET mandatory, still, these colleges filled their vacant seats by taking, 12th pass-outs directly based on their 12th results.

After the university directly refused to take admissions of these students, the institutes decided to move to court. As the decision of the Ahmedabad High Court came, the institute is now uncertain as around 100 students of Ayurveda and Homeopathy each can get affected by the judgement as they already took their admissions.

A student of Dhanvantari Ayurved College, Mahisagar, named Sidhdh Padya said that the last year, all students who have at least appeared for NEET were granted admissions. He informed that he got admissions that way and also cleared the prelims examination of the first year. Stating that he does not have a good NEET score, he is now not allowed to fill the annual form.

The principle of Parul Institute of Ayurveda, Vadodara, Dr Hemant Toshikhane said that the decision came too late and some students have already cleared their first year. However, he still feels that the admission criteria should be based on NEET.
